Distribution. China: Chongqing, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Taiwan; India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, and Nepal.

Host plants. Asplenium adiantum-nigum, Asplenium auriculatum , ( Aspleniaceae ), Athyrium sp., Athyrium macrocarpum (Athyriaceae) , Dryopteris molle (Dropteridaceae) , Polypodium sp. ( Polypodiaceae ) ( Raychaudhuri, 1980); Asplenium curicularium , Asplenium esculentum (Ghosh, 1974) ; Cyrtomium falcatum ( Lee, 2002) ; Dryopteris monticola , Dryopteris varia (Dryopteridaceae) , Rumohra mutica ( Miyazaki, 1968; Miyazaki, 1971); Hydrangea involucrata (Saxifragaceae) ( Miyazaki, 1972); Woodwardia sp. ( Blechnaceae ), Polystichum sp. ( Dryopteridaceae ) ( Takahashi, 1921 and Tao, 1963); Woodwardia radicans ( Blackman & Eastop, 2006) . Six species, Arachniodes chinensis (Dryopteridaceae) , Blechnum orientale (Blechnaceae) , Diplopterygium glaucum (Gleicheniaceae) , Dryopteris fuscipes (Dryopteridaceae) , Microlepia marginata (Dennstaedtiaceae) and Woodwardia japonica (Blechnaceae) , are newly added to the list of host plants ( Fig. 23 View FIGURE 23 ).

Biology. The species colonized on undersides or upsides of fronds and new growth of ferns in many genera. Anholocyclic on ferns in most places, but in Japan, it is apparently also partially heteroecious holocyclic. Adult fundatrices occurred in late April or early May. They infest young leaves and tender shoots of Hydrangea spp., without causing any deformations to the hosts ( Miyazaki, 1972).
