gen. nov.

Neovittacus gen. nov.

Type species. Neovittacus shitaicus sp. nov.

Diagnosis. Body fusiform; prodorsal shield with broad frontal lobe, with 4 spines anteriorly, scapular tubercles and setae (sc) ahead of rear shield margin, sc projecting anterior; all coxal setae present, coxae I divided, coxal area with a wide plate, almost as wide as body; legs with genu II setae absent; dorsal opisthosoma with broad annuli, forming thickened bands, opisthosoma with all usual setae; empodium entire; setae h1 absent.

Etymology. The genus designation is derived from the combination of Neo- and Vittacus Keifer ( Keifer, 1969a) , to which the new genus is the most similar, masculine in gender.

Notes. The new genus is assigned to Eriophyoidea, Eriophyidae , Phyllocoptinae , Phyllocoptini . The new genus is similar to Vittacus Keifer, 1969a , but can be differentiated from the latter by the scapular tubercles and setae ahead of rear shield margin, setae sc projecting anteriorly (scapular tubercles and setae on rear shield margin, setae sc projecting posteriorly in Vittacus ), coxal plate wide (coxal plate normal in Vittacus ). The new genus is also similar to Calvittacus, Xue, Song & Hong, 2006b , but can be differentiated from the latter by the coxal plate wide (coxal plate normal in Calvittacus ) and genu II setae absent (genu II setae present in Calvittacus ).
