Transfer of Surirella taxa to the genus Iconella
Surirella rafaelii Ramírez & Sala and S. tayronarum Medina Tombé, Sala, Vouilloud & Ramírez Restrepo , two recently described species from Colombia ( Sala et al. 2013 and Medina Tombé et al. 2016, respectively), formerly belonging to the Robustae group of the genus Surirella , which has been accommodated within Iconella by Ruck et al. (2016a). Both species have a raphe canal raised above valve face and mantle and alar canals with fenestral openings occluded by fenestral bars and internally with rimmed pores, thus exhibiting the diagnostic characters of the re-established genus ( Ruck et al. 2016a; Jahn et al. 2017). Therefore, we here propose the formal transfer of these species to Iconella :
