Tateomys rhinogradoides Musser 1969 View in CoL
Tateomys rhinogradoides Musser 1969 View in CoL , Am. Mus . Novit., 2384: 3.
Type Locality: Indonesia, C Sulawesi, Gunung Latimodjong, 2200 m .
Vernacular Names: Tate's Sulawesian Shrew Rat.
Distribution: Known from the type locality, Gunung Tokala, and Gunung Nokilalaki at high elevations in tropical upper montane rain forest in C core of Sulawesi; most likely will be found on other mountains in C Sulawesi in similar forest formations.
Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable.
Discussion: This terrestrial vermivore is the largest-bodied of the species of Tateomys and Melasmothrix . Stomach morphology closely similar to that of Tateomys macrocercus and Melasmothrix naso and unlike the large-bodied, Sulawesian shrew rat, Echiothrix centrosa , which occurs in lowland tropical evergeen rain forest at lower altitudes in the same region ( Musser and Durden, 2002).
