Type genus: Stenopsocus Hagen.
Diagnosis. Macropterous. Antenna filiform, with 13 segments, longer than body. Lacinia with narrowed tip. Wings transparent, with distinct veins. Forewing veins with single-row setae at least, but CuP sometimes lacking singlerow setae, basal membranous part with/without setae; pterostigma distinct, connecting to Rs by an r-rs crossvein, Rs and M fused for a distance; Rs with 2 branhes, M with 3 branches; ap cell subtriangular, connecting to M by a crossvein. Hind wing transparent, margin between branching of Rs with/without setae. Abdomen yellowish white or purple, with dark brown or light-colored genital segments. Male hypandrium posteriorly convex; phallosome with a pair of parameres and an aedeagal arch; sclerotized area of male hypandrium distinct or not. Female with subgenital plate sclerotized or not; gonapophyses with three pairs of valves, external valve reduced and fused with base of dorsal valve, dorsal and ventral valve blade-shaped.
