Squilla quadrispinosa Eydoux & Souleyet, 1842: 362 , pl. 5, fig. 1 [type locality: Sandwich Islands (= Hawaiian Islands)].
Pseudosquilla ciliata var. occidentalis Borradaile, 1900: 398 , 402 [type locality: West Indies].

Material examined. GAMBIER ISLANDS: AM P98494, 1 female (TL 18 mm), Taravai, 23°07.85'S, 135°02.08'W, 10–16 m, rubble, SFP 2014-66 -4, coll. M. Reid et al., 10 October 2014.
Remarks. Nobili (1906) first recorded P. ciliata from the Gambier Islands (Mangareva). Distribution. Tropical western and eastern Atlantic, Indo-West Pacific including French Polynesia; intertidal to 86 m ( Ahyong 2001).
