Type material. Holotype male, BRAZIL, Bahia State: Mata de São João, Sapiranga Reserve , 22–25.vii.2001, Malaise trap Ponto B 5, M.T. Tavares et al. ( MZSP).
Diagnostic characters. The species belongs in the parcus group. The male can be separated from all other members of the genus by the combination of the following characters: acrostichals present; superior volsella leafshaped; and inferior volsella lacking projection.
Etymology. The name refers to the type locality, Sapiranga Reserve, Bahia. The name is to be regarded as a noun in apposition.
Description
Male (n = 1). Total length 2.16 mm. Wing length 1.15 mm. Total length / wing length 2.15. Wing length / length of profemur 1.89.
Coloration. Head and thorax pale; abdomen pale with large, anterior brown band on tergites II–VIII. Legs pale.
Head. AR 1.14, ultimate flagellomere 487 µm long. Inner verticals 3, outer verticals 2, postorbitals 4. Clypeus with 10 setae. Tentorium 71 µm long, 30 µm wide. Stipes 106 µm long. Palpomere lengths (in µm): 25, 20, 71, 83, 104. Third palpomere with 3 sensillae subapically, longest 15 µm long.
Thorax. Scutal tubercle absent. Dorsocentrals 9, 2 of them close to antepronotum; acrostichals 8; prealars 3. Scutellum with 6 setae.
Wing ( Fig. 112 View FIGURES 112–114 ). VR 1.26. R with 5 setae, R 1 with 1 seta, R 4+5 with 2 setae at apex. Brachiolum with 2 setae. Remaining veins bare.
Legs. Spur of fore tibia (including scale) 46 µm long, spur of mid tibia (including comb) 58 µm long, spur of hind tibia (including comb) 66 µm long. Width at apex of fore tibia 38 µm, of mid tibia 38 µm, of hind tibia 43 µm. Lengths and proportions of legs as in Table 20.
Hypopygium ( Figs 113–114 View FIGURES 112–114 ). Anal point absent. Tergite IX without setae, tergal bands absent. Laterosternite IX with 1 seta. Phallapodeme 63 µm long. Transverse sternapodeme 33 µm long. Gonocoxite 127 µm long. Superior volsella leaf-shaped, 61 µm long, with 9 dorsal, 2 apical, and 2 ventral setae, covered with microtrichia in basal 2/3. Median volsella 5 µm long, with 2 apical setae, longest 20 µm long. Inferior volsella clavate, curved, 63 µm long, with 2 apical thin and 5 subapical stout, bifid setae; projection absent. Gonostylus 106 µm long. HR 1.19. HV 2.52.
Female and immatures. Unknown.
Distribution. The species is collected in the Bahia State in Brazil.
