Discussion: Reviewed by Ottenwalder (2001). Includes Antillogale and Atopogale ; see Patterson (1962:2) and Varona (1974:6). Besides the two extant species, two extinct species have been described from Cuba (Giant Solenodon ) and Hispaniola ( Antillogale marcanoi Patterson, 1962 ); see Morgan and Woods (1986). Remains of Solenodon marcanoi have been found in a horizon of "Late Pleistocene or Recent" age ( Patterson, 1962).
