Manota pinnata View in CoL sp. n.

Figs 17 View FIGURE 17 A–E

Male. Colour. Head brown, face paler brown. Antenna brown. Mouthparts paler yellowish. Thorax brown, preepisternum 2 ventrally pale. Legs pale yellowish, trochanters 2 and 3 brown, apical third of femur 3 infuscated, in some specimens basal part of femur 2 and 3 slightly infuscated. Wing pale brownish; haltere pale brown with dark brown knob. Abdomen brown, sternites paler than tergites. All setosity pale, yellowish or brownish, the thicker setae seeming darker than the finer setae and trichia. Head. Antennal flagellomere 4, Fig. 17 View FIGURE 17 A. Palpomere 3 of maxillary palpus with apicomesial thumb-like extension, with 3–4 apically expanded curved sensilla; palpomere 4 with parasegment, palpomere 5 ca. 1.4–1.5 times longer than palpomere 4. Number of strong postocular setae 8–10. Thorax. Anepisternum setose, with 29–58 setae; anterior basalare setose, with 5–12 setae; preepisternum 2 non-setose; laterotergite setose, with 20–41 setae; episternum 3 setose, with 8–23 setae. Legs. Mid and hind tibial organs absent. Wing. R1meeting C well on the basal half of the costal margin; the sclerotized part of M2 basally extending to the level of the tip of R1, wing length 1.6–1.8 mm. Hypopygium, Figs17 View FIGURE 17 B–E: Sternite 9 slightly shorter than the ventral length of gonocoxa, laterally fused with gonocoxa, posterior margin slightly convex, anterior margin with slight medial incision, the setae similar to ventral setae of gonocoxa. Parastylar lobe submembranous, short, posterior margin arched or slightly angular, with 1 seta arising from a conspicuous basal body at posterior margin. Paraapodemal lobe not identifiable. Dorsal mesial margin of gonocoxa simple, posteriorly membranous, posterolaterally forming a largely non-setose slightly curved lobe with the lateral margin; at the mesial side of this lobe there is a finger-like membranous lobe and a row of three flat sigmoid megasetae anteriorly accompanied by some less modified setae. At the dorsal mesial margin of gonocoxa, on more ventral level, a platelike submembranous lobe posteriorly bearing 2+1 blunt megasetae on a horseshoe-shaped more strongly sclerotized part. One juxtagonostylar seta present, which is a flattened apically sickle-shaped megaseta arising from a very short basal body. Gonostylus slightly more than half of the ventral length of gonocoxa, narrow, equally broad from base to apex, with a transverse lobe at the middle of the dorsal side; a long seta deviating from the other setosity subapically at the lateral margin; the ventral setosity sparse, similar to the ventral setosity of gonocoxa, the dorsal side non-setose except for a transverse row of setae on the dorsal lobe. Aedeagus with a broad basal part and a narrow very elongated apical part, no lateral shoulders, the apex curved ventrad. Hypoproct large, posteriorly extending beyond the apex of gonostylus, with a broader anterior and narrower posterior part, the ventral setae scattered, ca. 40 on each half. Cerci mesially separate, the setae distributed from apex near to base, the longest setae about twice the subapical width of cercus.

Female unknown.

Discussion. Manota pinnata belongs to a group of species together with M. cultrigera , M. foliolata , M. bracteata and M. pinnulata . M. pinnata differs from the others by its unusual hypoproct, which is divided into broader anterior and narrower posterior parts. In contrast to M. bracteata the gonostylus is weakly bilobed but see also further discussion under the latter.

Etymology. The name is Latin, pinnata , with small leaves, referring to the leaf-like megasetae posterodorsally on the gonostylus.
