Manota foliolata View in CoL sp. n.
Figs 9 View FIGURE 9 A–E
Male. Colour. Head brown. Antenna brown. Mouthparts paler yellowish. Thorax brown. Legs pale yellowish, trochanters 2 and 3 brown, apical third of femur 3 infuscated, in some specimens traces of infuscation apically on femur 2 and at the base of femur 3. Wing paler or darker brown; haltere pale brown with dark brown knob. Abdomen brown, sternites paler than tergites. All setosity pale, yellowish or brownish, the thicker setae seeming darker, even black, than the finer setae and trichia. Head. Antennal flagellomere 4, Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 A. Palpomere 3 of maxillary palpus with apicomesial thumb-like extension, with 3–4 apically expanded curved sensilla; palpomere 4 with parasegment, palpomere 5 ca. 1.5 times longer than palpomere 4. Number of strong postocular setae 10–13. Thorax. Anepisternum setose, with 35–58 setae; anterior basalare setose, with 7–14 setae; preepisternum 2 nonsetose; laterotergite setose, with 14–45 setae; episternum 3 setose, with 14–21 setae. Legs. Mid and hind tibial organs absent. Wing. R1meeting C well on the basal half of the costal margin; the sclerotized part of M2 basally extending to the level of the tip of R1, wing length 1.8–2.0 mm. Hypopygium, Figs 9 View FIGURE 9 B–E: Sternite 9 as long as the ventral length of gonocoxa, laterally fused with gonocoxa except for a short posterior part, posterior margin transverse, anterior margin with medial incision, the setae similar to ventral setae of gonocoxa. Parastylar lobe submembranous, with undulating margin, with 1 seta at posterior margin. Paraapodemal lobe not identifiable. Dorsal mesial margin of gonocoxa simple, the whole posterior part of gonocoxa forming a curved largely nonsetose lobe with two flattened leaf-like megasetae at the mesial margin. At the dorsal mesial margin of gonocoxa, on more ventral level, a plate-like lobe with 2 blunt widely separated megasetae at its mesial margin. One juxtagonostylar seta present, which is a flattened but pointed megaseta arising from a strong curved basal body which is as long as the megaseta. Gonostylus ca. one half of the ventral length of gonocoxa, subtriangular, indistinctly bilobed with a larger lateral and smaller mesial part, the latter with three very strong and prominent setae, one apically and two basomesially, and many weak ventral setae, the former with a few weak apical setae and a lateral row of wavy stronger setae, otherwise the gonostylus is non-setose. Aedeagus with a broad basal part and narrow apical part separated by lateral shoulders, the apex curved ventrad. Hypoproct large, posteriorly extending as far as the apex of gonostylus, the ventral setae scattered, ca. 20 on each half. Cerci mesially separate, the setae distributed in apical and basal groups, the longest setae about three times longer than the subapical width of cercus.
Female unknown.
Discussion. Manota foliolata belongs to a group of five species together with M. bracteata , M. cultrigera , M. pinnata and M. pinnulata (see discussion under M. bracteata ). M. foliolata differs from all the others by having: 1) only two flattened megasetae instead of three or more posteriorly at the dorsal mesial margin of gonocoxa and 2) only two megasetae on the lobe at the middle of the dorsal mesial margin of gonocoxa. Within the group, M. foliolata somewhat resembles M. pinnulata by having a posterior tongue-like part on its sternite 9 (compare Figs 9 View FIGURE 9 B; 18 B).
Etymology. The name is Latin, foliolata , with small leaves, referring to the leaf-like megasetae posterodorsally on the gonocoxa.
