Zoogeographic element. Holarctic.
Distribution. Widespread in Europe (also in the Balkan Peninsula), extended in northern and eastern Russia to Asia Minor and the Oriental region (western Asia). Recorded also in North America.
Distribution in Romania. Epigeal records. Oradea (ET61), Sibiu (KL77), Şura Mare (KL78), Fägäraş Mt. (LL45), Sighişoara (LM21), Mehadia (FQ07) (all: Kuthy 1896); Cisnädioara (KL76) (Ormay 1888); Spinuş (ET82) (Fleischer 1888; as Ptomaphagus watsoni ); Comana (MJ39) (Montandon 1908); Cincu (LL28), Cârţa Mt. (KL76), Väleni (FS62), Braşov (LL85) (all: Petri 1912); Bucegi Mt. (LL82) (Ieniştea 1941); Tocarnia (LN08) (Niţu 2008); Säcel, Izv. Izei (LN07) (Merkl 2008). Hypogeal records. Hagieni (PJ14) (Nitzu 2002); Cloşani (MSS) (FQ49) (Nitzu & Ilie 2004); Bertea (in gypsum cave) (ML00) (Nitzu et al. 2002); Cheile Caraşului (MSS) (ER60/70) (23.V.2002, IV leg., ISER) ( Fig. 17 View FIGURE 17 ).
