Taxonomy. Original description: Planiliza klunzingeri Day, 1888: 264 [ Mumbai, India; lectotype: ZSI 1407].— Iraq synonyms: Liza klunzingeri ( Day, 1888) View in CoL ; Chelon klunzingeri ( Day, 1888) View in CoL .—Revisions: None.—Illustration: Randall (1995: 235, fig., as Chelon klunzingeri View in CoL ).
Status in Iraq. First record from Iraq by Hussain et al. (2009); confirmed by Abood (2010).—Iraq materials: None.
Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Iraq: Persian Gulf watersheds.—General distribution: Western Indian Ocean: Persian Gulf east to Mumbai ( India).—Habitat: This species inhabits coral reefs and occurs in coastal waters in marine, freshwater, and brackish habitats. It forms schools in shallow coastal waters and enters lagoons, marshes, estuaries, and the lower courses of rivers to feed. Brackish, marine.
Economic importance. Commercially important.
Conservation. Conservation status in Iraq: Unknown.—IUCN: NE (2023).—Threats: Unknown.—Moderate sensitivity to human activities.—Keystone species.—Decline status: Unknown.—Moderate priority for conservation action.
