Taxonomy. Original description: Glyptosternum kurdistanicus Berg, 1931: 384 [Serdesht, at Little Zab (36°N), River Bané basin, Iran, elevation 1500 meters; holotype: ZIN 20780 View Materials ].—Iraq synonyms: None.—Revisions: Freyhof et al. (2021: 472); Sayyadzadeh et al. (2022, molecular systematics).— Illustration: Freyhof et al. (2021: 473, fig. 18) .
Status in Iraq. First record from Iraq by Berg, 1931; confirmed by Jawad et al. (2009) (Garraf River a branch of Euphrates River).—Iraq materials: Fish Collection of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources, College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, Basrah, Iraq.
Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Iraq: Tigris River basin.—General distribution: Middle East: Tigris River basin ( Turkey, Iraq, and Iran).—Habitat: All species of this genus in the Middle East inhabit fast-running sections of streams and rivers. Freshwater.
Economic importance. No commercial importance.
Conservation. Conservation Status in Iraq: Unknown.—IUCN: DD (IUCN 2023).—Threats: ABS, CON, HAB.—Moderate sensitivity to human activities.—Not considered as a keystone species.—Decline status: Unknown.—Moderate priority for conservation action.
