Taxonomy. Original description: Acanthopagrus arabicus Iwatsuki, 2013: 83 View in CoL , fig. 4 (b) [Western Coast of Qatar (market specimen): holotype: MUFS 33840].— Iraq synonyms: None.—Revisions: None.—Illustration: Iwatsuki (2013: fig. 4b); Esmaeili et al. (2014: 24, figs. 2–5).

Status in Iraq. First record from Iraq by Mohamed & Abood (2017a).—Iraq materials: None.

Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Iraq: Shatt al-Arab River.—General distribution: Northwestern Indian Ocean: Persian Gulf and Oman east to Pakistan and India.—Habitat: This species occurs throughout the gulf in shallow waters. Brackish, marine.

Economic importance. Commercially important.

Conservation. Conservation status in Iraq: Unknown.—IUCN: LC (IUCN 2023).—Threats: FIT.—Low sensitivity to human activities.—Not considered a keystone species.—Decline status: Unknown.—Low priority for conservation action.
