Type :— CHILE. ‘ Cape Negro, Straits of Magellan [31 Ene 1834] ; C. Darwin, Esq., (367) ’ (lectotype: K 000497976 ! designated by Porter (1999:193); isolectotype: CGE). Iconography: Freire et al. (2014: 148) .
Note: — Senecio magellanicus differs from species of S. ser. Culcitium by its erect capitula, echinate pollen and malpighiaceous trichomes (an unusual feature in Senecio ). In order to determine the inclusion of S. magellanicus in one of Senecio series further studies are required.
