Type:—[ ARGENTINA]. ‘ Tucumán: [Tafí] Sierras Calchaquíes, La Puerta, 4000 m. s. m., raro entre grandes rocas en lugar abrigado y húmedo, leg. A. Burkart, nº 5223, 30-I-1933 ’ (holotype: LP000409 !; isotype: SI 001003 !). Iconography: Cabrera (1934: 113) .
Senecio hygrophilus Cuatrecasas (1953a: 274), nom illeg., non Klatt 1890. Type:—‘ PERU. Dep. Cuzco, Prov. Urubamba: near Wenner Gren ruins; alt. 3400-3600 m.; [VIII 1942] collect. R. D. Metcalf 30755 …’ (holotype: US 00123419!; isotypes: GH 00012145 !, MO 714641 !, UC 695352 !) .
Distribution and Habitat ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 ): — Senecio burkartii occurs in the Andes of Argentina, Bolivia, and Peru, at elevations of 3800–4000 m.
