Type Locality: Kenya, Coast Prov., Changamwe.
Vernacular Names: East African Pouched Mouse.
Synonyms: Saccostomus isiolae Heller 1912 ; Saccostomus umbriventer Miller 1910 .
Distribution: Extreme S Ethiopia and S Somalia, through E Uganda and Kenya, to NE Tanzania.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Perhaps also a species complex as suggested by newly reported karyotypic, cranial, and genetic variation ( Corti et al., 2004; Fadda et al., 2001 b).
