Comprises former members of subgenera Crematogaster sensu stricto (in part), Decacrema (part), Oxygyne (incl. Nematocrema ), Mesocrema (in part), Colobocrema , Atopogyne and Sphaerocrema .
1. Petiole shape varying from moderately ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 12 – 19. 12 ), broadly ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 12 – 19. 12 ) or sharply flared ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 12 – 19. 12 ), oval ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 12 – 19. 12 ) or suboval ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 12 – 19. 12 ), elongate oval ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 20 – 27. 20 ) or hexagonal ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 20 – 27. 20 ).
2. Postpetiole usually more or less bilobed ( Figs 14 View FIGURES 12 – 19. 12 b–19b, 22b), with a distinct longitudinal impression (e.g. Figs 14 View FIGURES 12 – 19. 12 b–16b, 23); exception is the African C. kneri -group (see below), here postpetiole globular with at most a weak posterior impression ( Figs 24–25 View FIGURES 20 – 27. 20 ).
