After the examination of specimens collected by Padewieth in the Dinaric Alps near Senj (deposited in Croatian

Natural History Museum) and published as M. alpina ( Padewieth 1900, cited in Us 1967), we confirm they belong to M. irena , described in 1921. It is highly unlikely that M. alpina , a true alpine species, is present in Croatia, the closest populations inhabiting Westernmost Hungary and Austrian Alps.
