Type Locality: Brazil: Belem.

Vernacular Names: Black Tamarin.

Synonyms: Saguinus gracilis (G. Fischer 1813) ; Saguinus umbratus (Thomas 1922) ; Saguinus ursula Hoffmannsegg 1807 .

Distribution: Brazil, south of the Amazon, east of the Rio Xingu, including Marajo Isl.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Least Concern.

Discussion: S. midas species group. Formerly called tamarin , but this is a synonym of S. midas : see Hershkovitz (1977:711). Separated from S. midas by Natori and Hanihara (1988).
