Heterothrips brasiliensis Moulton, 1932 View in CoL

Known only from the type series, this species was described from specimens collected on Beginia sp. [sic], possibly a typographic mistake for Begonia sp. This dark brown thrips ( Figs 97–100 View FIGURES 93 – 101 ) is unusual in having a very long antennal segment III, about 3.5 times as long as wide ( Fig. 98 View FIGURES 93 – 101 ). Antennal segments III–IV are pale with the apex dark ( Fig. 98 View FIGURES 93 – 101 ), and the tibiae are extensively pale. Moreover, the discal setae on abdominal sternites III–VI are placed only laterally and males lack sternal pore plates.

Material examined. Holotype female, Brazil, Espírito Santo, Santa Theresa, 22.vii.1928, on Beginia sp. (O. Conde) ( CAS). Paratypes: 5 females, 3 males collected with holotype on indeterminate vegetation ( CAS and USNM).
