Etymology. The name of the new species reflects the main difference between this species and the similar Cerodontha eucaricis Nowakowski —the presence of a caudal projection on the epandrium (“gibbifer”—bearing the hump).

Host. Cyperaceae : Carex sp.

Mine. The solitary larva forms a blotch mine. Pupation takes place within the mine.

Puparium. ( Figs. 78–80 View FIGURES 75–83 ) Brown viewed from the side and dark brown viewed from above and below, semiglossy, 3.3 mm long, with weak segmentation; surface wrinkled except for wide spine bands. Both posterior spiracles are set on a single wide cylindrical protuberance directed dorso-posteriorly; brown, horn-shaped, with brown spinous anal lobes located ventrally. Anal plate distinctly protruding above the surface of the puparium viewed from the side and directed posteriorly.

Cephalopharyngeal skeleton. ( Fig. 393 View FIGURES 393–401 ) Right mouthhook larger than the left, both rounded ventrally. Each mouthhook bears two blunt accessory teeth. Intermediate sclerite long, narrow, 1.8× as long as height of left mouthhook. The mouthhook, intermediate sclerite, anterior portion of the pharyngeal sclerite and anterior half of the dorsal cornu are strongly sclerotized, posterior half of the dorsal cornu and the ventral cornu are much less so. Indentation index 80.

Distribution. Ukraine (Vinnitsa, Sumy and Kyiv Regions).

Adult description. Head. ( Figs. 394, 395 View FIGURES 393–401 ) Orbit not projecting above eye in profile; 2 orb s, 2 fr s; frorb sta long, in one row, reclinate; orbit wide, black and shining along the eye, brown and matt along the frons (frontal view); lunule matt, greyish-brown, high, narrow; oc tr small, shining black, reaching the level of posterior orb s; frons matt, brown; gena medially 0.13× as high as maximum height of eye; gena blackish-brown, deepest in posterior part; pped slightly elongated viewed from the side.

Wing: ( Fig. 396 View FIGURES 393–401 ) Hyaline, with veins brownish-yellow excluding yellow base; costa reaching M 1; last and penultimate section of CuA 1 equal; calypter, margin and fringe yellowish. Wing length: 2.5 mm in reared specimen, 2.75–3.0 mm in captured.

Mesonotum: Black, shining viewed from above; sctl black, slightly more matt than mesonotum; 1+3 dc s, their length gradually decreasing anteriorly; acr s black, in 6 irregular rows at level of 1 st postsutural dc s; the border of anepisternum, notopleuron and anepimeron narrowly yellow; halter yellow; legs: all femora, medial and posterior tibiae black, foretibia blackish only in medial third, the rest dirty yellow; all knees and tarsi dirty yellow with black hairs.

Male genitalia: ( Figs. 397–398 View FIGURES 393–401 ) Epandrium hemispherical, with distinct caudal projection. Cercus small, 0.28× as high as epandrium viewed from the side. Hypandrium U-shaped, with narrow arms. Ejaculatory apodeme large, narrow, elongated triangular, 0.28× as long as distiphallus. Distiphallus long compared to congeners and curved in semicircular tubules, medially diverging, but apically approximate. Mesophallus long and narrow, without strong widening near base of distiphallus, 0.45× as long as distiphallus. Phallus 0.95 mm long.

Female genitalia: ( Figs. 400, 401 View FIGURES 393–401 ) Capsule of spermatheca relatively small, 0.15× as high as height of anterior part of oviscape. Spermathecae equal in size, dark brown, spherical, flattened basally, with narrow rim-shaped basal collar. Neck of spermatheca conical, slightly longer than wide, narrowed to base, 1.06× as long as maximum width. Spermathecal duct corrugated and weakly sclerotized.

Comments. The new species is very close to C. (B.) eucaricis Nowakowski , but C. (B.) eucaricis differs in having matt orbits, a greyish-black lunule, a greyish-black moderately shining mesonotum, uniformly black legs with only the foreknees yellow, a calypter margin and fringe bright yellow and no caudal projection on the epandrium.

The new species can be integrated into the key on p. 89 of Papp & Černý (2016) as follows:

2. Calypter margin and fringe bright white, yellow or yellowish.................................................. 3 - Calypter margin and fringe darker, ochrous, brown or black................................................... 5 3. Small species, wing length 2.2–2.7 mm ................................................................... 4 - Larger species, wing length 2.5–3.5 mm .................................................................. 3a 3a. Calypter and fringe only yellowish; with caudal projection on epandrium.................. C. (B.) gibbifera spec. nov. - Calypter and fringe bright yellow; caudal projection absent............................ C. (B.) eucaricis Nowakowski
