52. Cyathea mucilagina Moran (1991: 92) , nom. cons. ( Lehnert 2014b). Type:— COSTA RICA. Heredia: between Quebrada Tigre and E fork of Rio Sardinal, ca. 9 km SW of Las Horquetas, 10º17’N, 84º02’W, 600 m, M. Grayum et al. 5042 (holotype MO-105242!/-105243!, isotypes CR!, UC-1533342!/-1533343!, US-00048839!/-00048840!).

Alsophila sodiroi Baker (1891: 149) , replaced synonym: Alsophila alata Sodiro (1883: 19) , not Alsophila alata Fée (1850: 346) , not Alsophila alata Fournier (1873: 349) . Cyathea ecuadorensis Domin (1929a: 262) , replaced synonym: Alsophila sodiroi Baker , not Cyathea sodiroi Christensen (1905: 95) . Type:— ECUADOR. Pichincha: San Miguel, without date, L. Sodiro s.n. (lectotype K-000590000!, here designated, isolectotype UC!).

Distribution and habitat: — Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia at 490–1500 m, in the understory of humid forests with little to no disturbance.

Remarks:— The regularly used name Cyathea mucilagina R.C.Moran is proposed for conservation ( Lehnert 2014b) over the older Cyathea ecuadorensis Domin (= Alsophila alata Sodiro ) because of the wider use, the superior type material and the lack of a confusing synonymy.
