Distribution and habitat:— Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, and Bolivia at 20– 1500(–2250) m in humid to wet forests. Preferring warm climates and open sun, flourishing in disturbed habitats.

Remarks:— “ Alsophila tumacensis Smith ” (1842: 667) is a nom. nud. attributable to this species.
