Shade-dwelling, dark damselflies that tend to remain perched ( Fig. 32 View FIGURE 32 ); for identification, see the papers by Machado (2001, 2004, 2009b). Habitats are seepage areas and slow, muddy, small streams in forest. Two of the three known species occur in Ecuador; the nymphs of this genus are unknown.

Note: The distinctness of A. westfalli from A. ephippigera is questionable, as the male cerci are nearly identical; more study should be devoted to these taxa.
