Mnesarete Cowley, 1934 View in CoL
The six species recorded in Ecuador are metallic purple, usually with dark wing tips ( Fig. 10 View FIGURE 10 ). The nymphs, which resemble those of Hetaerina , are found in small forested streams, sometimes partly open; most of the species are unknown in the nymph stage. The genus was revised by Garrison (2006).

Note: Garrison (2006) discussed its confused taxonomic history and states that it is a valid species distinct from M. hauxwelli . The type could have been from either Napo or Orellana Province.

Note: Heckman (2008) commented that some recent illustrations and descriptions of this species refer to M. fulgida . Two specimens in the QZAC collected by WFM labeled “ M. acerifolia ms.” should be H. hauxwelli .
Mnesarete metallica ( Selys, 1869) . Publ. Recs. ECU: Fraser (1946 — as Mnesarete hincksi , description), Tsuda (1986, 1991), Paulson (1983), Steinmann (1997a — as M. hincksi ), (H08), (P11), (H14); NA: Tennessen (1996b), Daigle (1996), Garrison (2006); OR: von Ellenrieder & Garrison (2011); PA: * McLachlan (1881a), Garrison (2006); SU: Garrison (2006). Note: Montgomery (1969) and De Marmels (1989) both stated that M. hincksi is the same as M. metallica .
