Type species: Leptochelia minuta Dana, 1849

Species included: Largely as in WoRMS (2012), plus L. bulbus ( Bamber, 2006) comb. nov.; L. inermis Dollfus, 1898 ; L. mercantilis Smith, 1906 ; L. mortenseni ( Lang, 1973) comb. nov., L. occiporta ( Błażewicz-Paszkowycz & Bamber, 2012) comb. nov..

Remarks. A problem with the genus Leptochelia is that the females of the type-species, L. minuta , are unknown. The female characters are assumed from the numerous other species, including (to date) two species of the minuta -group (see below).
