Nothobomolochus cornutus ( Claus, 1864)

Nothobomolochus cornutus was found on the gills of Sardina pilchardus .

In the Mediterranean, this species was collected on S. pilchardus by several authors, in Italy ( Richiardi 1880; Brian 1903) and Tunisia ( El Gharbi 1984; Ben Souissi & Ben Hassine 1992; Benmansour & Ben Hassine 1997). Nothobomolochus cornutus displays a marked preference for S. pilchardus . However, it has also been reported from Hirundichthys rondeletii , Luvarus imperialis , Scomberesox saurus and Sprattus sprattus ( Raibaut et al. 1998) .
