Species recognition. This species is recognized by the elongate, slightly downturned group of peglike setae, in combination with a highly contrasting yellowish pleuron, dark brown dorsal one-third of pleuron, and dark brown midcoxa.

Description. Body length: 2.03–2.44 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, yellow. Thorax: Scutum brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron whitish-yellow, except dorsum contrastingly dark brown. Mean costal length 0.56 wing length, range 0.54–0.57. Halter whitish-yellow. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae, with second most apical much smaller than others. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa dark brown. Hind coxa yellowish-brown. Hind coxal lobe light brown, only slightly developed. Posterior face of hind femur with elongate triple (rarely double), slightly ventrally curved row of peglike setae; with shallow concavity immediately distal of peglike setae, ventral margin appearing clear with light microscopy ( Figs 201–202, 300). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown, tergites 2–3 diffusely yellow anteriorly and all tergites with yellow posterior margin. Venter of abdomen gray, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia dark brown, except cercus yellow.

Distribution. Brazil, Colombia and Costa Rica.

Derivation of specific epithet. Named for Dr. Jack Longino, co-leader of the Arthropods of La Selva project, who has greatly facilitated our work at La Selva.

Holotype. ♂, COSTA RICA: Heredia: La Selva Biological Station , 16–23.v.1988, B.V. Brown, Malaise trap, primary forest, SSO 50 [ LACM ENT 096788 View Materials ] ( LACM).

Paratypes. 9♂, same data as holotype ( LACM, MCZC, USNM) .
