Species recognition. This species is most similar to D. utriensis , but differs by the shape of the white membranous areas on the hind femur, especially the much larger distal area in D. zumbadoi .

Description. Body length: 1.97–2.5 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae concave. Flagellomere 1 oval, brown, lighter basally. Palpus of normal size, light brown. Thorax: Scutum dark brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta three-quarters length of posterior seta. Pleuron brown. Mean costal length 0.52 wing length, range 0.5–0.53. Halter brown. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 3 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa brown. Hind coxa yellowish-brown. Hind coxal lobe light brown, short, truncate. Posterior face of hind femur with basal group of peglike setae; ventral concavity round, filled with spinuli; basal and distal white membranous areas broad, rounded, nearly touching dorsally ( Figs 155–156, 291). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 dark brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown. Venter of abdomen gray, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia brown, cercus yellow apically, brown basally, greatly elongate.

Distribution. Costa Rica.

Derivation of specific epithet. Named for INBio Curator Manuel Zumbado, who has helped us in numerous ways for many years.
