Dohrniphora sarriae View in CoL sp. n.

( Figs 123–124, 312)

Species recognition. This species is similar to D. mississipiensis and D. conspicua , but D. mississippiensis has a non-spinulose concavity on the hind femur. This species differs from D. conspicua by the much less-developed hind coxal lobe (similar to those in D. mississippiensis ) and the dorsal margin of the concavity. In D. conspicua , the dorsal margin of the concavity curves ventrally towards the ventral margin of the hind femur, whereas in D. sarriae this line extends basally in a nearly straight line. Additionally, in D. sarriae , the apex of the imbricate lobe is expanded dorsally and ventrally.

Description. Body length: 1.69–2.25 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 round, light brown. Palpus of normal size, light brown. Thorax: Scutum dark brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron light brown to dark brown. Mean costal length 0.5 wing length, range 0.48–0.52. Halter light brown. Legs light brown to mostly brown, foreleg yellower. Forecoxa in lateral view yellowish-brown. Foretibia with 4–5 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa dark brown. Hind coxa brown. Hind coxal lobe brown, short, decumbent ( Fig. 312). Posterior face of hind femur with single to double row of peglike setae well-separated from ventral margin of hind femur by large, imbricate lobe; apex of lobe slightly expanded dorsally and ventrally; more distally with large ventral spinulose concavity; dorsal margin of concavity extends basally in nearly straight line ( Figs 123–124). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 dark brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown. Venter of abdomen gray, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia with epandrium yellowish-brown, hypandrium brown, and cercus yellow.

Distribution. Colombia to Mexico.

Derivation of specific epithet. Named for Estella Sarria, who operated the Malaise traps at Farallones de Cali.
