Species recognition. This species can be recognized by the unusual oval basal lobe on the hind femur, with a more distal narrow basally-directed process.

Description. Body length: 2.16–2.56 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, except light brown on anterior margin and around bases of setae, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, yellow. Thorax: Scutum brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta onehalf length of posterior seta. Pleuron light brown, except anepisternum and meron dark brown. Mean costal length 0.5 wing length, range 0.49–0.51. Halter light brown. Legs mostly yellow. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres 1–3 enlarged, slightly inflated. Midcoxa brown. Hind coxa yellow. Hind coxal lobe light brown, moderately developed, truncate. Posterior face of hind femur with oval basal lobe bearing several peglike setae; more distally with narrow folded basally directed process ( Figs 73– 74). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 dark brown with lighter posterior seam, tergites 2–6 yellow medially, anteriorly and posteriorly, dark brown laterally, with medial yellow area decreasing in every tergite posteriorly. Venter of abdomen yellow, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia with epandrium yellowish-brown, hypandrium brown, and cercus yellow.

Distribution. Known from a single middle elevation site in Costa Rica.

Derivation of specific epithet. From Latin for spotted frons, referring to the color pattern.
