Species recognition. Easily recognized by its large size, and greatly enlarged foretarsomeres, this species also has a distinctive hind femoral setal pattern.

Description. Body length: 3.75 mm. Head: Frons light brown, second row of setae concave. Flagellomere 1 round, unusually small, yellow. Palpus of normal size, yellow. Thorax: Scutum light brown. Scutellum brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta three-quarters length of posterior seta. Pleuron whitish-yellow. Costa 0.54 wing length. Halter whitish-yellow. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view whitish-yellow. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres 1–3 enlarged, greatly inflated. Midcoxa light brown. Hind coxa whitish-yellow. Hind coxal lobe light brown, round, short. Posterior face of hind femur with basal double row of long, relatively thin setae; more distally with shallow emargination of ventral margin ( Figs 69–70). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 yellow, tergites 2–6 dark brown, with yellow anterior and posterior margins. Venter of abdomen yellow, with sparse setae. Male terminalia with epandrium yellowish-brown, hypandrium brown, and cercus yellow.

Distribution. Known from a single site in French Guiana.

Derivation of specific epithet. From Greek words for large body, referring to the unusually large size of the holotype specimen.

Holotype. ♂, FRENCH GUIANA: L’Oyapock : St. Georges de l’Oyapock, 3.88°N, 51.68°W, 7–9.ii.2006, P. Cerdan, Malaise trap [ LACM ENT 236476 ] ( LACM).
