Species recognition. This species has the hind femur similar to that of D. simplex , but the line of peglike setae is complete and the group is not organized into double rows.
Description. Body length: 1.81–2.13 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, except light brown on anterior margin and around bases of setae in some specimens, second row of setae concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, yellow. Thorax: Scutum light brown. Scutellum brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-third length of posterior seta. Pleuron whitish-yellow ventrally to light brown dorsally; dorsum of anepisternum with brown spot. Mean costal length 0.56 wing length, range 0.55–0.57. Halter yellow. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view whitish-yellow. Foretibia with 4–5 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa brown. Hind coxa whitish-yellow. Hind coxal lobe light brown, elongate, narrow. Posterior face of hind femur with basal line and small group of peglike setae arranged close to ventral margin of hind femur; with slight emargination distal to setae ( Figs 85–86). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 light brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown with lighter posterior seam. Venter of abdomen whitish-yellow, segments 3–6 brown laterally, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia with epandrium yellowish-brown, hypandrium brown, and cercus yellow.
Distribution. Colombia and Trinidad.
Derivation of specific epithet. From a Greek word for shy, euphemistically referring to the peglike setae, which do not stray far from the ventral margin of the hind femur.
