Dohrniphora fuliginata View in CoL sp. n.

( Figs 83–84, 281)

Dohrniphora castaneicoxa, Borgmeier, 1963 View in CoL (in part, specimens not from Brazil): 66-67, fig 72.

Species recognition. This species is most similar to D. castaneicoxa View in CoL , but differs by having darker hind coxal lobe and by the arrangement of the distal group of peglike setae, which is usually in an upright triangle. There is considerable variation in the peglike setae, however, with the line being partly double, and the group being irregularly shaped or even reduced to two setae (specimen LACM ENT 236025 from Oaxaca, Mexico- MZSP).

Description. Body length: 2.09–2.75 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae concave. Flagellomere 1 round, light brown. Palpus of normal size, yellow. Thorax: Scutum brown. Scutellum brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron yellowish-brown, brown dorsally. Mean costal length 0.55 wing length, range 0.54–0.57. Halter yellow. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellowish-brown. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa brown. Hind coxa yellowish-brown. Hind coxal lobe dark brown, black-tipped, shiny, round. Posterior face of hind femur with basal line and more distal group of peglike setae; group extending dorsally from ventral margin hind femur, often narrower dorsally forming triangle ( Figs 83–84); more distally with depression that appears clear with light microscopy ( Fig. 281). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown. Venter of abdomen gray, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia brown, cercus yellow.

Distribution. Mexico to Colombia.

Derivation of specific epithet. From a Latin word for sooty or black, referring to the black-tipped hind coxal lobe of this species.

Holotype. ♂, EL SALVADOR: La Liberdad: Finca la Giralda , 13.66°N, 89.68°W, 14–17.x.2000, J. Donahue, Malaise trap, 1180 m [ LACM ENT 075403 View Materials ] ( LACM) GoogleMaps .
