Species recognition. This species differs from the similar D. bugenitalis by characters in the key, most notably the bright orange color of the dorsum of the abdominal tergites.
Description. Body length: 1.81–1.91 mm. Head: Frons light brown, lighter ventrally; ocellar triangle darker, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, yellow. Thorax: Scutum yellowish brown. Scutellum brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron yellowish-brown. Mean costal length 0.53 wing length. Halter light brown. Legs mostly yellow. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 3 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres 1–4 enlarged, flattened. Midcoxa yellow. Hind coxa yellow. Hind coxal lobe yellow, round, elongate. Posterior face of hind femur with well-spaced, relatively long peglike setae in single ventral row and well-separated, more dorsal group ( Figs 47–48). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 brown, tergites 2–6 brown, light brown medially; tergite 6 light brown, almost orange. Venter of abdomen whitish-yellow, with sparse setae. Male terminalia with epandrium light brown to yellow, hypandrium brown, cercus yellow.
Distribution. Western Amazonian South America.
Derivation of specific epithet. From Latin words for flame-backed, referring to the color of the abdominal tergites.
