Type Locality: Brazil, Amazonas, Seringal Condor, left bank Rio Juruá (70 o 51’W, 06 o 45’S) GoogleMaps .

Vernacular Names: Kulina Spiny-rat.

Distribution: W Brazil north of the Rio Juruá to NE Peru, Dept. Loreto.

Discussion: Molecular analysis suggests affinities with pattoni and gardneri (da Silva, 1995; Patton et al., 2000). Karyotype has 2n=34 and FN=52.
