Type Locality: Madagascar, Fianarantsoa Prov., Ampitambe.
Vernacular Names: Lesser Tufted-tailed Rat.
Distribution: Humid forests of E Madagascar, near sea level to 1875 m.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Co-occurs regionally with most other species of Eliurus . Extensive size variation and broad altitudinal occurrence suggest a species composite.
