Type Locality: Indonesia, Java.

Vernacular Names: Hardwicke's Woolly Bat.

Synonyms: Kerivoula crypta Wroughton and Ryley 1913 ; Kerivoula depressa Miller 1906 ; Kerivoula engana Miller 1906 ; Kerivoula fusca Dobson 1871 ; Kerivoula malpasi Phillips 1932 .

Distribution: India and Sri Lanka, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, China, W Malaysia, Borneo, Java, Sumatra, Nusa Penida, Mentawai Isls, Sulawesi, Bali, Lesser Sundas, Kangean Isl and Talaud Isl ( Indonesia), Philippines.

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Does not include flora ; see Hill and Rozendaal (1989). Reviewed in part by Bates and Harrison (1997) and Hendrichsen et al. (2001b). Multiple subspecies have been recognized in the past, but recent studies suggest that these are not justified; see Corbet and Hill (1992) and Sinha (1999). This taxon is sometimes spelled hardwickei or hardwicki but most recent authors (e.g., Corbet and Hill, 1992; Koopman, 1993; Sinha, 1999; Hendrichsen et al., 2001b) have used the spelling hardwickii.
