Worldwide distribution, with currently ten described neotropical species ( Lundblad 1941, 1953 ; Wiles 2005 ; Pešić & Smit 2022 ; K. Viets 1954). There is great need for revision especially of the neotropical species. Typically found in all types of standing waters, as well as pools in streams, streams (especially with groundwater influence) and springs ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 ).
