Diagnosis. Round to elongate oval, slightly convex to nearly hemispherical. Antennae with eight segments. Elytra with or without distinct rows of systematic punctures; if present, often bearing short to long setae; margins not broadly explanate. Abdomen with five exposed ventrites which are pubescent throughout, although the density of pubescence may vary. Prosternum with or without a pair of spines or hairs. Mesosternal process usually set with articulated spines or hairs. Anterolateral corners of pronotum broadly rounded to spinose. Eyes not protruding. Elytral suture not raised. Males without a modified protarsus (diagnosis modified from Short & Perkins 2004).

Discussion. As previously mentioned by Short and Perkins (2004), there still remains a substantial number of undescribed taxa in the genus, and the generic concept will continue to be modified to accommodate new character combinations. A meaningful circumscription of the genus must wait until a larger proportion of the species are described.
