Eothenomys olitor Thomas 1911 View in CoL
Eothenomys olitor Thomas 1911 View in CoL , Abstr. Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1911 (100): 50.
Type Locality: China, Yunnan, Chao-tung-fu (= Zhaotong Xian), 6700 ft [2042 m] (Kaneko, 1999 b, provided additional information) .
Vernacular Names: Black-eared Red-backed Vole.
Synonyms: Eothenomys hypolitor Wang and Li 2000 .
Distribution: NE Yunnan at the type locality and SW Yunnan between the Mekong and Salween River valleys, 1800-3350 m ( Kaneko, 1996 b).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: E. chinensis species group. The smallest Eothenomys in body size. Hinton (1926 a) allocated olitor to the subgenus Eothenomys , as did Corbet and Hill (1992), but others have placed it in Anteliomys (G. M. Allen, 1940; Gromov and Polyakov, 1977) or in the subgenus Caryomys ( Pavlinov et al., 1995 a) . G. M. Allen (1940) extended the range to W Yunnan, but Kaneko (1996 b) explained why this record is not olitor ; inclusion of hypolitor observes the summary of Ye et al. (2002).
