Type Locality: "Environs of Nagasaki et d’Awa," [ Japan].

Vernacular Names: Japanese Badger.

Distribution: Japan (Honshu, Kyushu, Shikoku).

Discussion: Heptner et al. (1967) and Baryshnikov and Potapova (1990) considered anakuma a subspecies of Asian badger. However, Abramov (2001, 2002) supported the recognition of these forms as distinct.
