Hendeyscoresbya S.Blanco & C.E.Wetzel , nom. nov.

Replaced name: — Scoresbya Hendey in Discovery 16: 346. 1937 (Bacillariophyta, incertae sedis), nom. illeg. [non Scoresbya T.M.Harris in Meddel. GrØnland 85 (3): 38. 1932 (fossil Filicophyta)].

Type: — Scoresbya kempii Hendey.

Notes:— the fossil leaf morphogenus Scoresbya T.M.Harris is named after its type locality, Scoresby Sund, Greenland.

Hendeyscoresbya kempii (Hendey) S.Blanco & C.E.Wetzel , comb. nov. ≡ Scoresbya kempii Hendey in Discovery 16: 346. 1937.

Ktenodiscus Pant. in Beitr. Foss. Bacill. Ung. 2: 75. 1889 ≡ Pterotheca Grunow ex Forti in Nuova Notarisia 20: 25. 1909 (Bacillariophyta, incertae sedis) [non Pterotheca Cass. in Bull. Sci. Soc. Philom. Paris View in CoL 200. 1816 (Spermatophyta, Asteraceae View in CoL )] [nec Pterotheca K.B.Presl in Symb. Bot. 1: 55. 1832 (Spermatophyta, Cyperaceae View in CoL )].

Type: — Ktenodiscus hungaricus Pant.

Notes:— besides a later homonym, Pterotheca Grunow ex Forti is illegitimate because it originally included the generitype of Ktenodiscus ( Ktenodiscus hungaricus Pant. in Beitr. Foss. Bacill. Ung. 2: 75. 1889) (Art. 6.4 of the ICN), which provides the earliest generic name available. It also includes Micrampulla parvula Hanna in Occas. Pap. Calif. Acad. Sci. 13: 26. 1927, the type of Micrampulla Hanna , although not as circumscribed by Forti (Art. 52.1 note 2 of the ICN). Pterotheca derives from the Greek πτερον, a wing, and τηεχα, a sheath or case. Ktenodiscus (often misspelled Ctenodiscus ) derives from the Greek κτεν-, or “comb,” and δισκο, or “disc”
