Figs 1–4 View FIGURE 1 View FIGURES 2–7. 2–4 , 14–15 View FIGURES 14–24. 14–15

Ctenus smythiesi Simon 1897: 260 (description of female; holotype examined). Tikader & Malhotra 1981: 119, figs 10A–C (illustration of female).

Note. Platnick (2012) noted page 259 and description of male. He most likely confused the species with Heteropoda smythiesi on that particular page, which was described from a male.

Type material. Holotype female ( MNHN 1878-18665 View Materials ), India, Dehra Dun [published], Poona, Konkan [label], Smythies leg. [published].

Diagnosis. Medium-sized Ctenidae (total length female 10.7). Epigyne and vulva ( Figs 2–3 View FIGURES 2–7. 2–4 ) similar to that of Anahita jianfengensis Zhang, Hu & Han 2011 from Hainan ( Zhang et al. 2011), but distinguished from the latter species by (1) the shape of the median plate, especially the prominent posterior part and the concave lateral margins of the anterior part, (2) glandular appendages of the internal duct system longer, (3) posterior spermathecae with distinct lateral bulge. Distinguished from other Anahita species by the anchor-shaped median plate and the subparallel ducts leading to the spermathecae.

Redescription. Female. PL 4.6, PW 3.7, AW 2.1, OL 6.1, OW 3.5. Chelicerae with 3 promarginal and 5 retromarginal teeth as well as ca. 12 denticles more or less in one row. Opisthosoma with light longitudinal serrated band ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 14–24. 14–15 ).

Male. Unknown.

Distribution. Known only from the type locality; it is not clear whether the locality published (Dehra Dun) or the one on the label (Poona, Konkan) is correct ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 : 1a–b).

Note. According to the general bauplan of the female copulatory organ, this species is similar to Anahita feai comb. nov. and A. jianfengensis , therefore consequently transferred to the genus Anahita (cf. note in A. feai comb. nov.).
