Type Locality: Australia, probably Northern Territory (see Mahoney and Richardson, 1988:191).
Vernacular Names: Common Australian Rock Rat.
Synonyms: Zyzomys indutus (Thomas 1909) .
Distribution: Northern Australia; always in rocky outcrops in Pilbara region of Western Australia through Kimberleys to N coastal Queensland between Cooktown and Townsville; also on offshore islands ( Fleming, 1995 a:621; Watts and Aslin, 1981:138).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Patterns of allozymic comparisons between populations discordant with chromosomal differences ( Baverstock et al., 1977 d). Reviewed by Watts and Aslin (1981) and Fleming (1995 a); also see Churchill (1996).
