Diagnosis. Antennae, postpronotal lobes, halter and legs yellow. Third costal section twice as long as fourth section, rm placed near basal two fifths of the dm cell. Midfemora with short ventral ctenidia. Abdomen predominantly shining black. Syntergosternite 8 with large membranous area. Ejaculatory apodeme flattened.
Description (ɗ). Body length 2.8 mm; wings 3.5 mm. Antennae yellow, flagellum acute to long acute. Eyes contiguous on frons for a distance greater than length of frontal triangle. Frons gray pruinose in dorsal view. Thorax dark brown to black, brown pruinose dorsally and sparsely gray pruinose laterally (mesopleuron and postnotum). Katepisternum yellowish. Legs entirely yellow. Midfemora with short ventral ctenidia. Wings hyaline, except for brown pterostigma; third costal section twice as long as fourth; crossvein rm located at basal two fifths of the cell dm; last section of vein M1 sinuous; dmcu slightly sinuous. Halteres yellow, except knob brown dorsally. Abdomen ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 14 – 32. 14 – 17 ) shining black, sparsely brown pruinose in certain lights. Terminalia ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 14 – 32. 14 – 17 ) with large membranous area almost dividing syntergosternite 8 dorsally and ventrally; surstyli damaged (apparently symmetrical). Hypandrium and phallus as in Fig. 16 View FIGURES 14 – 32. 14 – 17 . Phallic guide short. Ejaculatory apodeme sclerotized, rather rounded basally and flattened distally ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 14 – 32. 14 – 17 ).
Female: unknown.
Material. Holotype ɗ (INPA). Verbatim text of three pin labels: NICARAGUA, Granada, Volcán Mombacho, Santa Ana #1 [white paper] / 21.vi.1998, J.M. Maes, Malaise trap [white paper] / Holotype ɗ, Eud. platyapodemalis Rafael [red paper]. Terminalia placed in a microvial with glycerine and pinned along with the specimen.
Etymology. From the Greek platys, flat, in reference to the flattened shape of the ejaculatory apodeme.
Remarks. E. platyapodemalis differs from other species by the ejaculatory apodeme characters presented in the diagnosis.
