Type-locality: Barbus prionacanthus – “Leyou River, tributary of Ogôoué River, Gabon ”. Lectotype: MNHN 1929-0235 (86.0 mm SL). Paralectotypes: MNHN 1929-0235 (5 of 6), 1929-0236 (4). Replacement name for Barbus holotaenia var. macracantha Pellegrin, 1930 , preoccupied by Barbus macarcanthus Bleeker, 1854 .
