Distribution: New Guinea; New Ireland ( Papua New Guinea); Kai Isls, Halmahera Isls, Schouten Isls, Sulawesi, Moluccas Isls; Waigeo Isl. (Prov. of Papua, Indonesia), Bismarck Arch. ( Papua New Guinea); Solomon Isls; adjacent small islands.

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Includes papuana; see Laurie and Hill (1954) and Hill (1983). Includes solomonis, considered a distinct species by McKean (1972). See Flannery (1995 a, b) and Bonaccorso (1998).
