The recent description of Phagocata obscura from a cave in southwestern Sardinia (Cuccuru Tiria Cave) represents the first fully described species of the genus recorded from Italy and the first anophthalmous species of Phagocata reported from Europe. The species is also anatomically well-distinguishable from its European congeners because of its principally prepharyngeal testes ( Stocchino et al., 2013c) ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ).
